Bang? Kok? Me too.

The Talat Noi area near Chinatown has some of the best street photography in the city, all those narrow sois with rusty signs and old Chinese shophouses. You can grab a bowl of kuay jab at the stalls along Trok Itsaranuphap for about 50 baht and it hits harder than anything in the tourist spots. Just watch out for the motorbikes weaving through, they don't slow down for anyone.

honestly the whole city's a vibe but if you're new start around Siam for the malls and street food balance. sukhumvit gets overwhelming fast with all the tourists, so I'd skip that til you've settled in a bit. the BTS skytrain makes it way easier than trying to deal with traffic, grab a rabbit card at any station

Bang Rak is where I'd point you if you want actual local life without the full backpacker scene. The riverfront there has some great old shophouses and food stalls that have been running for decades, plus the Oriental Hotel does a mean afternoon tea if you're feeling fancy. It's a short walk from Saphan Taksin BTS, so you can still get around easily.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
