I'm planning to visit Bangkok this December and hoping to do some fun art or craft workshops during my time there. I was particularly looking for a book binding workshop, but I'm also open to doing other art/craft workshops - please suggest places I can look at? Or studios I can reach out to for workshops/classes?

Thank you so much!

You might want to check out The Paper Room near Ari, they do bookbinding workshops and also sell handmade papers. I've seen them run one-day sessions for beginners, not too pricey either around 1,500 baht. For other craft stuff, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre often has rotating workshops in their basement studios, just check their schedule when you're here.

i'd hit up Baan Din in Bang Rak, they do more of a traditional thai craft vibe but sometimes have bookbinding pop-ups. honestly their regular workshops are cool too, like hand-painting on mulberry paper or making notebooks from scratch. costs around 800 baht for a half-day thing, and the space is this old wooden house with a garden, real chill.

for other art stuff, try Mango Art Studio on Sukhumvit 31, they do resin and clay workshops that are fun even if you're not crafty. just DM them on IG ahead of time since december gets booked out quick.

check out something at weave workshop near thong lo, they do a lot of handmade paper and stitching stuff, more like a chill afternoon thing for maybe 1,200 baht. for random craft fun, the art house on samsen road has one-off sessions in december, like screen printing or pottery, just hit them up on facebook to see what's on

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
