Hello, I am a first time solo traveller 24M looking for where is best to stay in Bangkok?

I am travelling at the start of 2025 for 6 weeks before going to Japan for 2 weeks.

I don't have any expectations and have never solo travelled before so am quite intimidated. I am hoping to go to some Muay Thai gyms while there and will also occasionally have work for a few hours for meetings in the evenings so will need reliable Wi-Fi.

Because my stay is over 30 days I have been looking on AirBnB and have found some apartments that look suitable.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what areas I should find apartments to stay in the city?

I am both really excited and nervous as this is very much out of my comfort zone but am doing so for hopefully some personal growth.

Any places you recommend visiting would be great too.

Thank you!

honestly On Nut is solid but if you want a more chilled start with less chaos look at Ari. it's got that neighborhood feel with tree lined streets and cafes everywhere but still connected by BTS. you can find a decent studio for around 10-14k on Airbnb and the internet is usually fiber since a lot of digital nomads stay there

for Muay Thai you're a bit further from the big gyms but there's a smaller place called Muay Thai Academy in Ari that's good for beginners and less intimidating than the big tourist spots. plus after training you can grab food at the night market on Phahonyothin road without dealing with Sukhumvit crowds

for your first solo trip just remember Bangkok is super safe and people are helpful even if you don't speak Thai. take the first week easy, walk around your area, find a favorite coffee shop and a food stall you like. the rest will fall into place

For six weeks starting fresh, I'd look at On Nut or Phra Khanong. You can get a decent serviced apartment with a desk and reliable fiber internet for around 12-15k baht a month on Airbnb, and the BTS is right there. The area has a bunch of solid Muay Thai gyms within walking distance, like FA Group or RSU Gym, and the vibe is more local and less touristy than Sukhumvit proper.

For work, just make sure the listing explicitly mentions fiber internet and not just "Wi-Fi" which can mean a shared router. I'd also suggest grabbing a DTAC or AIS tourist SIM at the airport for backup, it's cheap and saves hassle. Since you're here that long, you'll have time to explore the city without rushing, so don't overplan the first week.

ngl ari is cool but for a first timer who wants to actually see stuff without planning too much, look at saphan khwai. it's one stop from ari on the bts so you get the same chill vibe but rent is cheaper and you're closer to chatuchak market which is massive and worth a full day. studios go for 8-10k on airbnb if you book monthly

for muay thai there's a gym called krusod that's legit and not tourist priced, it's a short walk from the bts. the area has a bunch of street food that's actually good and not just for instagram, try the boat noodles near soi 7

the internet thing is real though, check if the place has fiber and ask the host to run a speedtest before you book. also get a rabbit card for the bts asap, saves you queuing every time and you can top up at 7-eleven

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
