I wouldn't mind t-shirts either. Ideally, I'm looking for options that are both high-quality (thinking Zegna, Loro Piana) and sustainably sourced (fair trade if possible). Price is secondary to quality. More than happy to use regionally sourced fabrics. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

honestly, skip the tourist spots on Sukhumvit and head to the old tailor district around Nana or the ones tucked in Soi 11. i've had good luck with Tailor On Ten, they carry genuine Loro Piana and Dormeuil, but you gotta ask for the book and check the labels yourself. they're not cheap, but they won't swap fabrics on you.

for sustainably sourced, check out P. S. Tailor on Soi 22, they do a lot of organic cotton and some local Thai silk blends, and they're upfront about where the cloth comes from. fair trade is a bit of a stretch here tbh, but they treat their staff well and that counts for something.

t-shirts? that's a different game. most tailors won't do proper tees, but there's a spot called The Coat Room near Phrom Phong that does nice pique polos with decent Egyptian cotton. not exactly Zegna level, but way better than the mall stuff. expect to pay 3,000 baht and up for a shirt, suits start around 25k with premium cloth.

check out Narin's Custom Tailors on Sukhumvit Soi 7/1, it's a bit hidden but the owner's a third generation cutter who's obsessed with fabric sourcing. he'll show you swatch books from Zegna's mainline, not just the lower Trofeo range, and he's got access to some Japanese mills like Scabal which most shops here don't touch. prices are steep for sure, think 35k baht and up for a two piece, but the construction is proper full canvas and they do a floating chest piece, which you won't find at the places on Sukhumvit road.

for the sustainability bit, i'd actually steer you toward the weekend market at Chatuchak, section 18 has a few textile stalls selling deadstock European wools and organic cottons that never made it to retail. grab a bolt and take it to any decent tailor, they'll cut it for you for a fraction of the price. i did that with some leftover Loro Piana jacketing and the tailor on Soi 23 charged me 8k for a full suit, fit was killer.

also, for tees, skip the tailors entirely and check out the brand "Issue" at Siam Discovery, they do organic Pima cotton tees with a proper boxy cut that feels like Zegna's casual line, around 1,200 baht each. not custom, but the fabric is genuinely premium and

yeah so the other reply nailed the big names, but if you really care about provenance, check out Rajawongse Clothier on Sukhumvit Soi 8. they're one of the few places that'll show you the actual mill certificates for their Loro Piana and Vitale Barberis, and the owner's been doing this for like 30 years so he's not gonna play games with you.

for the sustainable angle, i'd add that a lot of the "fair trade" stuff here is marketing fluff. instead, ask for Thai mulberry silk or organic cotton from the Isaan region, that's where the real local craftsmanship is. there's a small workshop near the BTS at Ari that does custom shirts with Thai-grown cotton, but you gotta book ahead, it's not a walk-in kinda place.

one thing nobody mentioned: if you want premium tees, hit up the fabric markets in Pratunam first, grab some Pima cotton or even bamboo viscose, then have a tailor run it up for you. most tailors will do it for like 1,500 baht a shirt if you bring your own cloth, and you'll get a way better fit than anything off the rack. just make sure they use a flatlock seam for the sleeves, otherwise it'll look like a cheap gym tee.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
