Can someone recommend me an evening river cruise ? with good view and maybe dinner

there are so many, help me there are so many, help me

honestly skip the big party boats entirely, the food's meh and u spend half the time dodging selfie sticks. if u want something different, check out the wang na riverside, it's a converted warehouse vibe, not super fancy but the terrace seating is right on the water and u get the lit up temples passing by without the tourist circus. they do a set menu around 1200 baht, more local flavors than the standard buffet. also tip: book the 6pm sailing, the golden hour light on wat pho is way better than the 8pm one where it's just darkness and neon. walk ins might work on weekdays but weekends book out fast, call ahead.

hey if u want the classic experience chaos princess is the big one everyone knows, but honestly i'd skip it unless u want the buffet crowd. go with manohra instead, it's a smaller wooden rice barge that cruises the chao phraya, way more intimate and the food is proper thai not the watered down stuff. they pick up from the river city pier around 7pm, costs like 1800 baht a head but worth it for the vibe. if ur on a tighter budget, the supatra river house boat is solid too, same area, less fancy but the view of wat arun at sunset is unbeatable. book a day ahead online or call, walk ins usually get the worst seats near the engine lol

skip the dinner ones if u can, just grab drinks at the sala rattanakosin rooftop bar instead. the view of wat arun from there is insane and u can watch the boats go by without paying for a mediocre meal. but if ur set on cruising, the white orchid is fine for a party vibe, just lower ur expectations on the food lol

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
