Hi,

I am getting into Bangkok on Saturday and the new iphone is around $250 cheaper than my home country so I was looking to buy one there when I land.

Does the Apple store in CentralWorld have stock?

I am happy to travel further if there is an apple store or reputable reseller with the same price as on the website.

Thanks

The CentralWorld Apple store is your safest bet but stock on the 16 Pro moves fast, especially the Pro Max in desert titanium. Check the Apple Thailand site the morning you land and you can reserve for in store pickup, that saves you queuing and they hold it a few hours.

If CentralWorld is out, the Iconsiam store usually has better stock since it gets less foot traffic. For resellers, avoid the random shops in MBK and Pantip, tons of marked up or grey market units there. Studio7 and Banana IT are the legit authorized chains, prices match Apple's site, and they're in most big malls.

Stock at CentralWorld on a Saturday afternoon is basically a lottery. What actually works is reserving online for pickup, but you need a Thai phone number for the OTP, so grab a tourist SIM at the airport first or borrow one. Without that the reservation page locks you out and you're stuck queuing with everyone else.

Also factor in that the Thai 16 Pro is the A3xxx dual physical SIM variant, no eSIM only, which is fine for most people but means no easy US carrier swap later if you move back.

One thing to sort before you land: your home carrier might sell the 16 Pro locked, but Apple's Thai units are all unlocked, so no issue there. What catches people out is the warranty. Apple's Thailand warranty is regional, so a phone bought here won't get free service back home, you'd be paying out of pocket or shipping it. If you're only here short term, factor that in.

Also, don't sleep on Power Buy in places like Central Embassy or EmSphere. They're an authorized Apple reseller, prices match the website, and they tend to have stock when the standalone Apple stores are wiped out on launch weekend. Staff there are usually less rushed too, so you can actually check the box and serial before paying.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
