Hi guys,

Apologise if there's a seperate sub for this (please feel free to say where this should go otherwise), but does anyone know of any schools looking for English teachers around the Lak Song area.

I'm a British female looking to move back to Bangkok to be with my Thai boyfriend the beginning of next year. His current home is in Sala Ya but we're looking to live around Lak Song so I'm close to the BTS to commute to the city for friends, social life ect. But I don't want to have to commute to work.

Thank for any help 🫶🏼

I'd suggest checking Ajarn.com's forum if you haven't already, that's where most schools in the outskirts post before they go to Facebook groups. The listings there tend to be more specific about locations like Lak Song rather than just "Bangkok" which saves you the commute.

For something a bit different, there's a handful of corporate training centers near the Seacon Square junction that do morning classes for bank employees and hotel staff. They're less visible than the cram schools but the pay hits 600-700 baht per hour and the students are adults who actually want to be there. Drop your CV at the HR desk of Kasikornbank's training center on Phetkasem 81, they hire freelancers in batches every quarter.

Since you're British and have the qualifications to back it up, the bilingual schools along Phetkasem Road between Lak Song and Bang Wa are worth a proper look. Ones like Sarasas or SISB sometimes recruit for their extension campuses out this way, and they pay around 40,000 to 50,000 baht starting for a full timetable.

The commute from Lak Song BTS to Sala Ya is actually not that bad if you take the shortcut through Mahidol University's back gate, about 15 minutes on a motorbike. If your boyfriend's already based there, I'd check if they need any English lecturers at the faculty of engineering or science, they sometimes hire externally for conversation classes and the pay is better than the language centers.

You might want to look into the British curriculum schools around Bang Khae. They're only a couple BTS stops from Lak Song and tend to hire native speakers with UK qualifications. Some of them post vacancies later in the year, around October or November, for January starts.

The language centers on Phetkasem Soi 62 are another option. They do mostly evening classes for adults who work in the area, so the hours are different from the typical after-school gigs and the students tend to be more motivated. Rates are similar to what others mentioned, around 400-500 per hour.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
