Hi, I'm sure there might be some old posts about it and if so, please just point me to them.

My wife and I are moving to Bangkok in a month, we are in our mid thirties and we mainly work from home, I occasionally take meetings in the business center or fly to Singapore.

We were looking at different neighborhoods and would appreciate suggestions about the feeling each one of them has. If there is a green neighborhood and not too chaotic, with all services and local places it would be good to understand where it is.

Also, would you suggest living in a building with all services inside or a single house?

I've lived in Vietnam for seven years and I do have an idea of the chaos that SEA can be.

Thank you all in advance!

u might like thong lor but it's pricier and more built up than ari tbh. ekamai is a solid middle ground -- still has trees and decent sidewalks but way more local stuff than thong lor, and you can walk to big c or the market without fighting traffic. for houses vs condos, a house in a moo baan with a security guard can be nice and quiet but you'll deal with more bugs and maintenance yourself, condos are just easier for wfh and travel. if u want quiet and green, check around the end of sukhumvit 71 or 63 where it gets residential and less commercial

ngl with your background in Vietnam you'd prob be fine pretty much anywhere but since you mentioned green and not too chaotic I'd look at the area around the Bangkok University campus in Kluai Nam Thai. it's not really on most expat radars but it's got real trees, actual sidewalks, and a bunch of old-school noodle shops mixed with newer cafes. the rent is way cheaper than Thong Lo or Ari for a decent sized condo, and you're still like 10 mins from Asok by bike if you need to hop the BTS to the airport for Singapore trips.

for the house vs condo thing, given you're both WFH I'd lean toward a condo with a dedicated coworking space in the building rather than a house. houses in the city tend to be either super expensive compounds or older ones with thin walls and lots of street noise, plus you'll have to deal with termites and random power cuts yourself. a condo in a mid-range building near a park like Benjakitti gives you green space without the maintenance hassle, and the newer ones around Rama 4 have decent soundproofing for calls.

Honestly, since you're both WFH and used to Vietnam's chaos, you might really like Ari. It's got that leafy, low-rise vibe without feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere, and there's a decent mix of local spots and cafes with solid wifi. For the building vs. house thing, a condo with a pool and gym will save you headaches with maintenance and security, especially if you're flying out often. Just avoid anything right on Phahon Yothin road past Saphan Khwai if you want quiet.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
