Does anyone know if the ballot box at the US Embassy in Bangkok is accessible on weekends?

I may not be able to get into town until the weekend. Can you access the ballot box? I've received my ballot. I just need to drop it off. I may not be able to get into town until the weekend. Can you access the ballot box? I've received my ballot. I just need to drop it off.

fwiw theres also a DHL drop box at the embassy compound entrance but that's for courier services not the ballot box specifically. if you're really stuck on weekend timing, the consular section at the US embassy in bangkok used to have a 24/7 drop slot for documents but I think they stopped that during covid. honestly mailing it from the post office near asok is probably your best bet, just use EMS international which is tracked and usually takes about a week to the states cost me like 400 baht last time

nah the embassy is only open weekdays 7:30-10am for US citizen services, including ballot drop off. weekend access isnt a thing there, they lock it down tight. if you cant make it during those hours, you can mail it from any post office in bangkok instead, just make sure to use airmail and give it like 2 weeks to get back. theres a post office near asok bts that handles international mail pretty quick if you want to be safe

did u even look at the embassy's website before posting this? it says clear as day the ballot box is only for walk-in hours weekdays 7-10am. no weekend service, no after-hours drop. if u can't get there on a weekday you're stuck mailing it. use

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
