If you want something casual but still feels like real Bangkok, try heading to the area around Charoen Krung. There's a bunch of old-school spots tucked away in the alleys near River City, no frills but the food is solid and you get that gritty local vibe.

I'd check out the area around Ari, it's got a cool local feel without being touristy. There's a place called Khao Gaeng Jek Pui that does killer Thai curries, super casual and cheap.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
