For a fancier option, try the grilled chicken at Baan Khanitha, they use a Thai-style marinade with turmeric and lemongrass and it's consistently good. But for street-level, the vendors near the entrance to the Bangkok Mosque on Soi Sukhumvit 3 have a great version with sticky rice and a spicy jaew dipping sauce.
honestly for halal grilled chicken i'd go to the stalls on soi rambuttri near khao san road, there's a spot called jay fai's little cousin (not the famous one) that does a mean gai yang with a super smoky char. they use a clay pot setup and the marinade has this hint of coriander root and white pepper that's hard to beat. the whole meal with sticky rice and som tam runs about 60 baht and they're open til midnight

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
