honestly the balm sniffing thing is super normal here, tons of thais carry yom or those inhalers and use em on the bts regardless of who's around. it's a habit, not a judgment on you. the woman with the card coulda been reading something or just fanning, it's sticky as hell in those delays.

but fwiw, nivea in this climate is hit or miss. i switched to the scent-free deodorant cream from the big watsons near siam, the one with the blue lid, it's like 80 baht and doesn't clash with sweat the way spray does. also, if u were in aircon all day then hit the bts, the temp change makes ur body dump moisture fast, which can amplify whatever scent u got. try wearing a looser shirt next time, cotton breathes way better than those synthetic blends.

if u wanna be 100% sure, do the sniff test on ur shirt's armpit now, if it's clean then ur fine, if there's a hint of yesterday's deodorant mixed with today's sweat, that's the real stink source, not ur body. wash it with a bit of vinegar next cycle, that kills the residue.

nah u probably fine. the BTS at 6pm during a service issue is a zoo, people get weird and start projecting. i've seen folks wave fans or tissue at literally nothing when it's packed like that.

but real talk, the nivea might be the culprit. that stuff's not built for this humidity. grab a roll-on from watsons instead, the mistine ones or the snake brand powder stick, they're like 60 baht and actually hold up. also check ur shirt armpits after a few hours, sometimes the smell lingers in the fabric even if u feel dry. if ur shirt's clean and u showered, it's probably just the heat making everyone on edge.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
