It seems that all nightclubs in the main areas of Bangkok don't really start having people there until after midnight. Any clubs that get rocking before that time?

honestly most of the big clubs on rca and thonglor are dead before midnight yeah. if you want a crowd earlier, try sing sing theater on sukhumvit 45, it's a weird venue with a cool vibe and people actually show up around 10-11pm. another option is beam in thonglor, they do a lot of live music sets early and the dance floor picks up by 11. just avoid anything on khao san unless you want tourists drinking buckets at 8pm

the crowd at studio lam on sukhumvit 26 starts filling in around 10pm most nights, it's a smaller spot with a good sound system and they lean into house and disco. the dress code is relaxed too, no one's stressing about sneakers. another one is mustache bar on ekkamai, it's more of a lounge vibe but the music gets loud and people are dancing by 11, just expect a slightly older crowd compared to thonglor

If you head to Glow on Sukhumvit 23, the crowd usually starts trickling in around 11pm and it's a solid dance floor by midnight. It's a smaller basement spot that plays mostly techno and house, so the energy builds earlier than the massive clubs. For something different, check out De Commu on Soi Ekkamai 10, they have a rooftop section where people hang out from 10pm and the music picks up early.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
