What do you do on a day to day basis? On average how long do you go without socializing?

Also your age if you don't mind telling.

32, moved here from Chiang Mai about two years ago for work. My life is mostly a loop of the office near Asok, the gym in my building, and a nightly walk around Benjakitti Park. I've gone two weeks without a real conversation more times than I can count, but I've found that ordering the same thing at the same food stall in the soi behind my condo counts as socializing if you squint hard enough.

The thing that keeps me sane is taking the canal boat down Saen Saep on weekends, just to sit and watch the city slide by. It's cheap, it's loud, and nobody expects you to talk. I also got into the habit of going to the same cinema at Terminal 21 on weekday afternoons, empty theaters are underrated for feeling alone in a good way. Loneliness hits worst on random Tuesday nights when I realize I haven't spoken out loud since Sunday, so I'll call my mom or just order a big bowl of boat noodles and call it a win.

Late 30s, Thai-American, been back in Bangkok for about 4 years after a stint abroad. My day is mostly freelance work from a condo near Ari, then I'll walk over to the weekend market at Chatuchak just to browse even when I don't need anything. I probably go 10 days at a time without a real conversation, but I've made peace with it by treating the city as background noise, the BTS crowd, the motorbike taxis, the monks on their morning rounds.

The thing that saves me is having a few low-pressure anchors: the same barber every 3 weeks, the same fruit lady at the market who remembers my order, and a regular seat at a noodle shop on Soi Ari where they don't chat unless I do. Sundays I'll go to Lumphini Park early and just watch the monitor lizards, it's oddly calming. Loneliness creeps in around holidays like Songkran when everyone's with family, but I've learned to book a cheap flight somewhere quiet those weeks.

34, western, been here 6 years. my routine is pretty locked in: gym at 6am before it gets hot, then work till 4 or 5, then either a long walk along the river near saphan taksin or a movie at the old school theater on charoen krung. i probably go 4 or 5 days without saying more than "khob khun krap" to anyone, and that's fine by me. the trick is finding spots where being alone feels normal, like the food court at central pier or that 24hr bookshop on sukhumvit soi 24. sundays i'll grab a cheap massage and just zone out for an hour, best therapy going

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
