So In Thailand there are these fuzzy caterpillars and if you irritate them, they kick up their hairs which causes severe skin irritation. During the rainy season, sometimes wind or rain will cause them to throw hairs and if it's slightly windy, sometimes those hairs will get into laundry that's hanging out to dry.

I understand some of you condo residents on the 27th floor might be looking at me like I have two heads, but I assure you, it's a real issue in Thailand, especially outside of the city.

Anyway, my question is are there any creams or anything you can use to reduce the itching? because I am incredibly itchy right now.

Thanks!

The pharmacy at the Villa Market on Sukhumvit Soi 33 has a specific Thai cream called "Ya Khee Kaa" (the white tube with green lettering) that's made for exactly this. About 45 baht and it works faster than anything imported I've tried. You'll find it near the counter with all the small white tubes mixed in with the balms and tiger balms.

If you can't get to that specific pharmacy, any local drugstore will have chlorpheniramine tablets for about 3 baht each. Take one and it'll knock out the histamine response within 20 minutes. Just don't take it if you need to drive anywhere, it makes most people drowsy.

tape trick is solid but honestly the best thing is plain old white vinegar. dab it on with a cotton ball, stings like hell for a second but it neutralizes the proteins in the hairs way better than any cream ive tried. got this from an old lady in khon kaen and it works every time.

also if you can handle the smell, a paste of baking soda and water left on for 10 mins pulls the irritation out. just dont scratch no matter what, that spreads the hairs deeper into your skin.

Oh man, I feel for you, that caterpillar hair itch is no joke. Honestly, just slap on some sticky tape first to pull out any hairs you can see, then a cold compress and hydrocortisone cream works way better than antihistamines for me.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
