Another option if you're only taking the BTS a few times is to buy a 30-day Sky Smart Pass from the ticket office. It's a stored value card with a 30 baht deposit, no age restriction, and you can top it up at any station. The big difference from a Rabbit card is you can't reload it at 7-Eleven, but the orange top up machines at every BTS station are in English and take cash. I've seen plenty of older tourists use them without any issue at Siam and Asok counters.

I'd skip the Rabbit card hassle entirely and use the MRT's Mangmoom card instead. It's 30 baht deposit, no age restrictions, no passport needed, and you can get it at any MRT ticket booth in about two minutes. The MRT covers Sukhumvit, Silom, and most of the central areas you'd want to visit anyway, and if you need the BTS for somewhere specific you can just buy a single ticket there. The interchange stations like Asok and Siam are well connected so you won't feel stuck.

tbh the easiest workaround nobody mentions is just using your phone for the BTS instead of a physical card. if you have an iphone with apple pay or an android with google wallet you can add a Rabbit card to your phone through the Rabbit Line Pay app, it's a digital card that doesn't check your age at all because you're just loading it online. you top up through the app or at 7-Eleven with cash, and you tap your phone at the gates same as a physical card. only catch is you need a Thai phone number to register the app but you can get a tourist sim at the airport for like 300 baht and that works fine

otherwise yeah the Sky Smart Pass is your next best bet like others said, 30 baht deposit at any BTS ticket counter, no passport needed, no age check, and you can top up at the orange machines in every station. i've seen tourists get them all the time without issue

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
