As I exited Thailand last month via BKK airport after some conference in Bangkok, I attempted to use the eGates at BKK instead of going through immigration officers. That didn't work and I was told to… As I exited Thailand last month via BKK airport after some conference in Bangkok, I attempted to use the eGates at BKK instead of going through immigration officers. That didn't work and I was told to through an immigration officer, who told me that they must put an exit stamp on passengers' passports, unlike the eGates. Why do immigration officers place an exit stamp on the passenger's passport while automated emigration gates don't at BKK airport? Assume that the passenger is in good standing, e.g. didn't overstay.

oh that's just how it works here, the officers have to physically stamp as part of their process while the eGates are only for data logging i think. if you go through the automated gates you don't get a stamp at all, but they still record you leaving in the system. guess it's a holdover from the old way

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
