Or is the card just for convenience only?

if u ride the same route twice a day most days, do the math on the 30 day pass vs ur actual 62 x 2 x days u commute. a 1400 pass only wins if ur riding like 23+ days a month, so if u wfh some days or take motosai sometimes it quietly loses. also the rabbit card itself is free the first time if u buy at a station office, just pay 100 deposit + top up, so no reason not to have one for the queue skip at asok alone

Worth knowing that BTS fares are distance based, so 62 baht each way means you're near the cap already. The stored value on a Rabbit card doesn't touch that, but you do skip the queue at the ticket machines which matters at Asok around 8am. If you're crossing between lines, the 30 day pass rarely works out and you're better off just topping up. Also check if your office is near an MRT stop, sometimes a mixed commute ends up cheaper than staying on BTS the whole way.

BTS fares cap at 62 for the longest single rides, so if you're hitting that daily you're basically already at the ceiling and no stored value trick will help. What actually cuts cost for some people is switching to the MRT leg where it overlaps, like Chatuchak to Sukhumvit area, since MRT fares are cheaper per km on that stretch. Also keep an eye on the BTS website for the occasional off-peak promo they run, sometimes 10 or 20 percent off stored value top-ups during Songkran or New Year. Not reliable but free money when it pops up.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
