Hi

When I visit Thailand I usually use an e-SIM such as Airalo. I've used the Line app with this, and even when returning to Europe and my usual SIM card, kept my contacts and chats that were originally (afaik) associated with my local Thai number.

I've never configured a LinePay wallet when in Thailand, and it doesn't seem to accept my European phone number.

Question: is it possible to create a LinePay wallet with a non-Thai phone number, or can I do it when I get my next local number?

I basically just want to use tap-to-pay with my phone on BTS, so I don't have to fiddle with physical wallet and cards.

yeah linepay is gonna be a no-go with a non-thai number, they're pretty strict about that verification step. if you're set on tap-to-pay without the physical card, the TrueMoney wallet app works with a foreign number and you can link it to your rabbit card through their system. just download it, register with your email or foreign number, then go to any 7-eleven to top up cash - the bts gates that have the rabbit/truemoney logo will scan the qr from the app. it's not as smooth as linepay but it's the only workaround i've seen actually work for tourists

honestly the line pay rabbit card thing is a hassle with a foreign number, they want a thai number to verify and it's just not worth the fight. your best bet for tap-to-pay on the bts is just getting the physical rabbit card and topping it up at the machine, it takes 30 seconds. or if you really want phone-based, try the mangmoom app from bts themselves, it works with foreign cards sometimes and uses qr at the gates near soi 24. line pay is decent for 7-eleven but not for transit tap tbh

ngl you're overthinking this. the rabbit card is literally just a plastic card you tap, costs 100 baht at any bts station, and you top up at the machine with cash or a card. if you're set on phone tap, the bts mangmoom app does work with foreign cards sometimes but it's hit or miss and you have to use the qr gates near siam or asok. linepay is a thai number thing and they don't budge, i've tried

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
