Where can I buy a solid gold Buddha amulet (to wear on a necklace)?
I was recently at Suvarnabhumi and saw a Thai guy… Every quarter I get a bonus from work, and use part of it to buy 1-2 baht of gold. I buy it for the gold, but it's fun to have the option to wear it.
I was recently at Suvarnabhumi and saw a Thai guy wearing a quite ostentatious solid gold Buddha amulet on a necklace that must've weighed 8+ baht. And of course I thought, "I gotta get me one of these."
So where's the best place to go? The gold shops I usually buy from say that they only sell the gold cases into which you put regular amulets; the amulets themselves aren't solid gold.

You're looking for a specific thing. Most gold shops on Yaowarat (Chinatown) only sell hollow gold casings for amulets, like you've already found. For a solid gold Buddha you'd want a proper amulet dealer who works with goldsmiths, not a jewelry store.
Try the amulet market at Tha Phra Chan near Thammasat University. There are stalls there that specialize in high-end gold takruts and solid Buddha pendants. You'll pay a premium over spot price because of the craftsmanship, but they'll weigh it right in front of you. Bring cash, most of those dealers don't take cards.
