Hey everyone,

I'm curious to know your thoughts on condo styles in Bangkok. Do you prefer the charm and character of a Loft/European style condo, or are you more inclined towards the sleek and contemporary look of a Modern condo?

Loft/European Style (as in the video):

Exposed brick walls

High ceilings

Industrial elements

Vintage aesthetics

Modern Style (as new developments by large companies):

Clean lines

Minimalist design

High-tech amenities

Contemporary finishes

Which style resonates more with you and why? Share your preferences and experiences!

Looking forward to your insights!

Feel free to tweak it as needed. Happy posting! 😊

honestly im more of a loft/european style person myself. the modern condos all start to look the same after a while, especially those new ones along sukhumvit where every lobby has that same marble and gold trim. loft style feels more like an actual home and less like a hotel lobby

a friend lives in a loft unit in thonglor near the old soi 55 market and the exposed brick actually helps with heat absorption in the afternoon. plus the high ceilings make those 30+ floor walkups feel less claustrophobic. modern condos with their floor to ceiling glass look great but the AC bill in summer is brutal

that said, if youre renting out the unit modern is prob safer for resale. thai buyers love that clean minimalist look and the smart home features. loft style is more of a niche thing here, you might have to wait longer for the right tenant

ngl i lean modern but with a twist. those loft places look cool in photos but in bangkok the dust settles on all that exposed brick and it's a nightmare to clean. plus mosquitos love hiding in those vintage nooks and crannies. my place in asoke is modern but i added some warm wood furniture and plants to keep it from feeling like a sterile showroom. best of both worlds

I've lived in both and honestly the loft style wins for day to day living. The modern ones feel great when you first move in but all that glass and hard surface means every sound echoes like crazy. My friend in a modern unit at Ideo Q can hear her neighbor's phone notifications through the wall.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
