there's a vietnamese place in the talad phlu area that not many people know about. its on the small soi right before the bts station, across from the 7-11. they have fresh banh mi ingredients and the owner brings in coffee from dalat every few weeks. the condensed milk she sells is thai brand but works fine for ca phe sua da
if you're near silom, there's a small viet grocery on soi 3 that most people miss. they stock g7 coffee and those crispy shrimp crackers, plus fresh herbs on weekends. the owner's from hanoi so she brings in stuff like fermented shrimp paste that's hard to find elsewhere. prices are fair, like 120 baht for a bag of coffee vs 180 at the malls
honestly just hit up the vietnamese area around soi nana in chinatown. there's a few shops tucked in the alleys off charoen krung road that sell coffee, fish sauce, and dried goods. the one near the corner of soi 16 has a solid selection of ca phe sua da packs.
if you're out near on nut, the talad rot fai night market has a stall that imports instant viet coffee and those coconut candies. cheaper than the supermarkets too. i'd skip big c unless you're desperate, their selection is weak.
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
