I'm visiting Bangkok with 2 friends soon and we are looking for a good restaurant with a vibe similar to for example Zuma in Bangkok. We love fine dining and great wines but we are looking for something that's too stiff when it comes to the atmosphere. It doesn't have to be cheap. And definitely a plus if it's a place with a good amount of female guests too. Please let me know if you have any recommendations!!

skip the tourist traps ngl, if you want that zuma vibe but less scene, check out saawaan on soi suanplu. it's a tasting menu only spot, 10 courses, but the room is small and chill, more like a dinner party than a show. they do a wine pairing that's mostly old world, not too heavy, and the chef comes out to explain each dish, super casual about it. crowd is a mix of thai couples and food nerds, not a sausage fest at all. pricing is around 3500 baht without drinks, but you'll feel like you got a deal vs zuma's markup. also, if you're into natural wine, their list has some weird finds that are fun to ask about

honestly skip the hotel spots and check out Wana Yook in Ekkamai, it's got that Zuma energy but way more laid back, the tasting menu is killer and they do natural wines that actually pair well with the Thai flavors. the crowd is mixed, lots of young locals and expats, not stiff at all, you can even sit at the counter and watch them cook. if u want something a bit more wild, try 80/20 down in Charoen Krung, it's fine dining but the vibe is like a friend's loft party, they do these playful courses and the wine list is short but solid, plus the staff will literally chat with u like u're at a bar. both are prob 3000-4000 baht a head with drinks, worth it for the experience.

If you're into the whole wine and fine dining thing but want zero pretension, check out Le Du. It's a bit more refined than the places people usually throw out, but the vibe is genuinely relaxed, like you could show up in decent jeans and not feel out of place. They do a proper tasting menu with a solid wine pairing, and the crowd is a good mix, lots of groups of friends rather than just couples on a big night out. Expect around 3500 to 4000 baht a head with drinks, and the river view from the terrace is a nice bonus

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
