I know you guys love to hang out/party/at least get to know some people but have you done any activity alone that it normally gets someone involved with?

I've seen a Thai joke saying about levels of being a single master from 10 up to maybe 100 like

10 : talking to yourself 20 : eating out alone 30 : going shopping alone 40 : watching movie alone 50 : eating buffet/shabu/hot pot/suki/moo kra ta alone 60 : celebrating birthday alone 70 : going to a concert alone 80 : singing karaoke alone 90 : attending the wedding ceremony alone 100 : being admitted in the hospital alone without anyone taking care of/visiting

Have you guys done any of these or else that is expected to have someone with you but turned out to be alone?

I've hit most of those on the list, but the one that surprised me was going to a concert alone. Saw a band at a small venue near Ari, and honestly it was better than going with a group. You don't have to yell over anyone or coordinate meet-up spots, you just wander in, grab a beer, and leave when you feel like it.

The solo moo kra ta is a solid level 50 though. I do it at the place on Soi Ekkamai 10 sometimes, and the staff are so used to seeing me they just bring the small pot without asking. It's cheaper too, you can order exactly what you want and not fight over the last piece of pork.

I haven't done the hospital one, but I have done the birthday alone. Booked a nice table at a Japanese place near Thong Lo, ordered the good sake, and told the staff it was my birthday just to see what they'd do. Got a free dessert and a little song, which felt both sad and hilarious at the same time.

honestly the hospital one is the real boss level but i think the underrated one is the solo dentist visit. went to that clinic on sukhumvit soi 33 for a root canal, no one to hold ur hand, just you and the drill. the nurse asked if i wanted a friend to come in and i was like nah. afterwards i treated myself to a bowl of noodles at the shop across the street and it felt like i earned it. also did the moo kra ta alone at that spot near on nut bts, the one with the sign that says "happy grill", and the staff just gave me a thumbs up. they even set up a tiny fan for me. not sad, just efficient.

the karaoke one is underrated honestly. there's a place on Ratchada soi 4, the big one with the neon sign, and they give you a tiny room even if you're one person. i went on a random weekday afternoon, ordered the cheap beer tower, and just sang shitty pop songs for two hours. no one cares about your pitch when it's just you and the remote.

the hospital one i've done though, level 100 unlocked. got dengue a few years back and checked myself into a public hospital near Bang Sue. nurses were nice enough, but the guy in the next bed had his whole family rotating shifts, bringing him fruit and soup. i had my phone and a bag of 7-Eleven snacks. weirdly peaceful though, you get a lot of thinking done. wouldn't recommend it as a fun activity, but if it happens, you survive.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
