I'm curious about all these smaller local places I've seen while walking around. I'm in Thong Lor/Ekkamai area, but anything off Sukhumvit is fair game, if it's fairly close to BTS.

I've been to a few on the smaller soi off Thong Lor that don't really have names, just a sign saying "Thai Massage" in Thai. One on Soi 55 near the back of J Avenue, a couple doors down from the tiny laundromat, does a good job for 300 baht. The owner's been doing it for years and knows how to work out knots without trying to crack your spine. I'd also check out the place on Soi 38, just past the food stalls and before the condo entrance, it's cheap and the ladies are friendly but they don't speak much English. Just point at the price board and they'll sort you out.

Yeah, there's a tiny spot on Soi Ekkamai 10, right before the little temple, that's really solid. It's run by two sisters, no sign in English, just a green door and a bell. 300 baht for 90 minutes, and they do this awesome shoulder and neck focus that's hard to find at the big places.

Over on Soi 26 near Phrom Phong, there's a small place called Preecha Massage tucked behind the Japanese restaurants. It's nothing fancy, no air conditioning even, but the older ladies there know their stuff and it's 250 baht for an hour. I'd skip the foot massage at most of these little shops on Sukhumvit proper and go straight for the Thai massage, that's where they really shine. The one on Soi 49 near the Ekkamai BTS exit, right next to the 7-Eleven, is also solid and usually has no wait.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
