What was your experience like? A bit of context - we got our LTR 'Wealthy Pensioner' visa and have been living in Bangkok for the last few months. Urgently need a tax ID as our overseas bank is demanding one now to complete their KYC and continue operating the account.

Any tips on how best to go about it would be certainly helpful!

another option is the revenue department's online booking system, saves u the early morning rush. you can book a slot on their website a few days ahead, just look for "e-tax ID appointment" or something similar in thai. they still want the same docs but at least u get a set time instead of waiting hours on a plastic chair

if ur bank letter is in english only, get it translated at a certified translation place near asok or silom, costs around 300-500 baht. the officers at area 1 are used to foreigners but a thai translation makes them less likely to ask for extra proof

one thing nobody mentioned: bring a thai friend or coworker if possible. not because the process is hard, but because the staff might try to send u to a different counter or office without clear explanation. having someone who can push back in thai saves u from getting bounced around

You want Area 1 of the Revenue Department on Soi Phaholyothin 7, near Saphan Khwai BTS. That's the main office for personal tax IDs in Bangkok, not the district offices which often send you there anyway. Go early, like 8am, because the queue fills up fast and it's a full morning affair.

Bring copies of everything: your passport, visa, rental contract or proof of address, and a letter from your overseas bank stating they need the tax ID for KYC. They're strict about documents, so having extras saves you a return trip. The staff speak some English but it helps to have your bank's request translated into Thai if possible.

If you get stuck, try the larger district offices like Chatuchak or Bang Sue, but expect the same process. Most people get the ID the same day, but it can take a few hours depending on the crowd.

yeah that area 1 office is the one, just brace for a long wait. might be worth hiring a fixer to queue for you, some agencies near there do it for like 500 baht

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
