Dear All, I am looking for a budget room to rent near iconsiam or Saphin taskin. Could you suggest me where can i have one ?

Khlong San is probably your best bet for budget and proximity. There's a cluster of old apartment buildings on Soi Charoen Nakhon 22 that are about a 10 minute walk to the BTS or a short ferry ride across to Iconsiam. Expect to pay around 4,500 to 6,000 baht for a basic fan room with a shared bathroom, and you'll find the rental signs in Thai near the 7-Eleven at the mouth of the soi.

another option is bang rak, right between saphin taksin and sala daeng. there are some older apartments on soi sathorn 1 and soi sathorn 2 that run around 5,000-7,000 baht, and it's a 10 minute walk to the bts or a 15 baht bus down sathorn road to the pier. the rooms are small and basic but the neighborhood has good street food and it's way quieter than charoen krung at night

I'd check the area around Saphan Taksin BTS station itself, but not right next to it. Walk a few minutes into the side streets off Charoen Krung Road, especially near Soi Charoen Krung 36 or Soi 38. Those older shophouse apartments are basic but cheap, usually around 4,000-6,000 baht, and you're a 15-minute walk or a quick motorbike taxi from the pier. Just be ready for thin walls and maybe no air conditioning in the cheapest ones.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
