Does anyone know if there's a beginner hiphop adult dance classes?

I know it's a stretch but if anyone knows any dance studios or definitely the classes or one-on-ones.. I know it's a stretch but if anyone knows any dance studios or definitely the classes or one-on-ones..

If you're up for a bit of a commute, there's a small studio called Rhythm Lab near On Nut, just a few minutes from the BTS. They run a Saturday morning beginner hiphop class that's mostly expats and people who've never danced before, so the pace is really gentle. It's 400 baht for a drop-in, and the teacher is a Thai guy who spent a few years in LA, so he mixes English and Thai seamlessly.

For the one-on-one route, I'd actually recommend checking out the dance clubs at Chulalongkorn or Thammasat universities. They're not official studios, but the senior members often take private students for around 500 to 700 baht an hour, and they're used to teaching total beginners. You'd need to message them on Facebook or Instagram, but they're usually happy to meet at a campus practice room, which is surprisingly well equipped. Just don't expect a fancy studio vibe, it's more like learning in a school gym, but the price and patience are hard to beat.

Another option that doesn't get mentioned much is Unity Studio, tucked in a small soi off Ari. They run a Sunday afternoon beginner hiphop session that's mostly office workers and uni students, super low pressure. It's around 350 baht per class if you buy a pack of four, and the instructor is a Filipino guy who teaches in English mostly, so that helps if your Thai is shaky.

If you're set on one-on-one, I'd actually suggest asking the teachers at Unity directly after a class. A few of them do private sessions on the side for way less than the studio rates, like 600 to 800 baht an hour, and they'll come to a nearby practice room or even your condo gym if it has space. Just be clear you're a complete beginner, some of them default to choreography-heavy stuff, but if you say you want footwork and rhythm basics, they'll adapt.

The Dancer's Studio is solid, but if you want something a bit more lowkey, check out Baan Dance on Ekkamai Soi 10. They run a beginner hiphop block that starts the first week of every month, so you'll be in a group of actual newbies rather than jumping into the middle of a session. It's around 400 baht per drop-in, or cheaper if you commit to the month.

For private lessons, I'd skip the fancy Thonglor spots and look at Studio 305 near Phra Khanong BTS instead. They do one-on-ones for closer to 900 baht an hour, and the owner there used to teach at a university dance program, so she's really good at breaking down basics without making you feel like an idiot. Just message them on Line a day ahead, they're not always answering the phone.

One thing nobody mentioned, bring a pair of sneakers you don't mind scuffing. The floors at most these places are fine, but you'll be doing a lot of sliding and pivoting early on. And don't worry about being the oldest or least coordinated person there, half the adults in Bangkok's beginner classes are total newbies too.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
