I am looking for a restaurant in Bangkok where you can eat fresh herbs from their own cultivation. In other words, a restaurant where the products are very fresh and you get regional ingredients. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks ☺️

try ba hao on sathorn soi 10. they have a small organic farm up in kanchanaburi that supplies the kitchen so everything's super fresh and seasonal. the menu changes a lot but they always have this wild mushroom salad with herbs i can never identify, tastes like the garden just got tossed on a plate. get the set menu, it's like 1500 baht and gives you a real sense of what they're growing

ngl you should hit up Issaya Siamese Club. they have this whole garden out in the back with like 30+ herbs and veg. the chef literally walks through before service and picks what's ready. their som tam uses green papaya from the garden and the herbs are stupid fresh. it's on Sathon Soi 12, kinda tucked away but worth the hunt

honestly you should check out Baan Padthai on Ekkamai Soi 2. they've got this little herb garden out back and the chef picks stuff right before cooking. the pad thai there uses fresh turmeric and lemongrass from their own plot, tastes completely different from the street stuff

another spot is Suan Bua at the Dusit Thani, they grow thai basil and kaffir lime leaves on site. pricey but the green curry there is prob the freshest I've had in Bangkok. the herbs hit different when they're still warm from the sun

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
