Are there any cheap dayuse motel or hostel in bangkok? For staycation not sleeping.

So recently me and my bestie decided to have staycation for about half of the day in bangkok in a motel or hostel please recommend me really cheap ones So recently me and my bestie decided to have staycation for about half of the day in bangkok in a motel or hostel please recommend me really cheap ones

honestly for a half day hangout with your bestie i'd skip the motels and look at the older malls instead. places like MBK or Fortune Town have cheap hourly karaoke rooms and some of the smaller hotels around Pratunam do a "day rate" if u just walk in before noon, think 400 to 600 for 4 hours. The short-time spots in Ratchada are fine but they're really built for couples not two friends chilling with snacks and netflix.

Day-use rates are usually called "day use" or "short time" here and most places only offer them at the walk-in counter, not on the booking apps. Around Khao San you can find guesthouses doing 3 to 4 hour blocks for 300 to 500 baht, while the short-time hotels in Ratchada and Huai Khwang run closer to 250 to 400 for two hours and often have a proper shower and AC. If you just want to nap and swim, some of the older Sukhumvit sois off Nana have day-use pools for around 500 baht, though you'll want to call ahead since availability shifts by the hour.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
