A few days ago, I headed there to grab lunch and all the food stalls were gone. Completely cleared out like they were never there. What happened? Was this a temporary market? What did I miss?

the lotus market was never really official, more like vendors squatting on land that belonged to the mall. heard from a friend who sells there that they got notice back in like march, most of them moved over to the market on soi 77/1 near the Max Value. its a bit further, maybe 10 min walk or a quick motosai, but a lot of the same stalls went there. the moo ping lady with the long line definitely did, saw her there last week.

yeah that was the temporary market that popped up during covid when they were redeveloping the big lotus parking lot. the city finally cleared it out a couple weeks ago to start construction on that new mixed-use building project. honestly the best street food around there now is the little soi just past the 7-11 on sukhumvit 50, about a 5 min walk from the bts. they got a killer khao man gai guy who's been there for years, way better than the on nut market stuff imo

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
