Feasibility of Shipping an Electric Skateboard to America?

Instead of a motorbike, I bought myself a very tough, very ridiculous, very beloved, electric skateboard. While I couldn't even begin to deny that this is objectively an ill-advised decision, I love it. Couldn't do bangkok without it tbh.

I was planning on just leaving it here, or giving it away when I leave in December. However, it was not cheap; cost me about a grand, and that was me getting a really good deal on it compared to the 1600 retail. I'm fine with this, as the board is still a frugal option when compared with grab bikes, which is how I would have to get to campus (abac) from my apartment in phra khanong 4x a week.

Anyway, now I'm wondering what the feasibility is of me shipping it back. Taking it on a regular domestic flight is an absolute no-go, it's got a truly huge-ass lithium-ass battery.

One advantage of my situation is that I don't care about speed. It could take 2 months for all I care. And I have a relatively high cost threshold, because spending a few hundred bucks to ship it would still be way cheaper than buying a new board in the states. After stripping it down and packing what I could in my luggage, it probably weighs about 12 pounds.

What do ya'll think?

i've shipped a few things back from bangkok and honestly the battery is less of a headache than people think if you go by sea. try a place like scg express or even flash express, they do consolidated sea freight to the us and are way more relaxed about lithium batteries as long as it's installed or properly packaged and declared. cost me about 1500 baht for a 10kg box to california last year, took about 6 weeks. just make sure you drain the battery to like 30% and tape the connectors so it won't short out in transit

honestly i'd just take the battery out and ship it separately via surface mail, it's way cheaper that way. the board itself without the battery is just a piece of wood and wheels, you could prob even check it in as oversized luggage on your flight if you wrap it up real good. just make sure you declare the battery properly or it might get flagged

yeah that battery is gonna be the real headache with any shipping company. maybe look into a cargo consolidator that does sea freight, they're usually more chill about lithium stuff than airlines

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
