the japanese store tokyu hands at siam discovery also has a small section near the travel accessories. they stock these compact umbrellas with a uv rating printed right on the tag, usually around 600 baht. the fabric feels more breathable than the typical cheap ones, so ur arm doesn't get all sweaty holding it

if u want something that actually feels premium and folds small enough to fit in a crossbody bag, go to central embassy's ikea-esque store called "tales" on the 4th floor. they have a brand called coolibar or something similar, it's like 1200 baht but the handle is wooden and the fabric is that matte black that doesn't look cheap. only downside is it's not great in heavy rain, the coating is more UV than waterproof

siam paragon's basement floor has a shop called paragon walking that stocks those fancy japanese UV umbrellas, the kind with silver coating inside. they're pricier like 800-1500 baht but actually block heat well and hold up in sudden rain

if u want something cheaper and more practical for both rain and sun, check out the stalls in mbk center near the soi 5 entrance. the ones with double-layer fabric and a curved handle usually run 200-400 baht and last a season or two

big c ratchadamri also has a small section near the checkout with decent UV umbrellas for around 150 baht, not fancy but gets the job done if u just need something quick

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
