Hello,

As a foreigner bank, I always have fees when I withdraw cash (220 bath).

I saw on some posts, it is possible to don't have fees by going to the cashier bank with the passeport.

Instead of withdrawing cash at the atm.

Does anyone try recently?

Thanks

yeah the counter withdrawal thing works but it's hit or miss. some branches of bangkok bank and kasikorn will do it for free with your passport, others will charge you 50 baht or just say no. you're better off just using a card that reimburses atm fees like charles schwab or revolut, then you don't have to hunt around sukhumvit for a cooperative teller

ngl the counter thing works but you gotta go to the right branch. i did it at a bangkok bank in ladprao once and they didn't charge me anything, just needed passport and a quick form. but the mini-branches in malls? forget it, they'll prob say no or charge u 50 baht. if u can, just use wise or a card that refunds atm fees, saves u the headache

honestly the counter withdrawal thing is real but super inconsistent. i've had luck at scb branches in siam square area, they waived the fee when i showed my passport and work permit. but some tellers will just point at a sign and say no, depends who you get

if you're staying a while, open a krungsri account. they have a plan called "krungsri first" that gives you free atm withdrawals at their machines. takes like 20 mins with your passport and a photo. way less hassle than playing teller roulette every time you need cash

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
