If you're near Thong Lo, Roots at the Commons will weigh out whatever single origin they're roasting that week, and their house blend runs around 400 baht for a half kilo. For serious volume, hit up the Chatuchak Weekend Market, there's a stall in section 8 called Beans and Brew that sells 1kg bags of Thai arabica for like 300 baht, not the prettiest roast but it's decent for a daily driver. Also, any branch of Pacamara will grind to your exact spec if you ask, no extra charge, which saves you from buying a grinder if you haven't already.

honestly skip the supermarket bags, they're stale half the time. head to Nana Coffee Roasters on Sukhumvit 36, they sell their beans by weight and the staff will actually dial you in based on your brew method. if you're closer to old town, try Casa Lapin in Sathorn, they've got a solid single origin rotation and will bag you a fresh kilo for around 600-800 baht. also check out any local roastery in Ari, like Kaizen, they do bulk discounts if you bring your own container.

Casa Lapin is solid but they're a bit pricey ngl. if you're in the Ari area there's a little spot called Kaizen Roasters, they'll sell you a kilo of their daily batch for like 500 baht and it's way fresher than anything wrapped in plastic. bring your own bag and they give you a small discount too, which adds up when you're going through a kilo every two weeks.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
