depends what kinda vibe ur after tbh. if u want trendy fast fashion and don't mind the crowd, union mall all the way. but if ur into digging for vintage denim or weird unique pieces, bangsue junction has this chaotic charm that's fun when ur not rushed. i've found some sick levi's jackets there for like 200 baht, but it's hit or miss.

price wise union is more predictable, u can get a whole haul for under 1000 baht if u stick to the upper floors. bangsue feels cheaper on the surface but u end up spending more time and maybe more money on stuff u didn't plan for. plus the heat there is real, lots of open corridors, so bring water.

one thing nobody's mentioned, union mall has those little kiosks near the escalators selling phone cases and accessories, cheap and decent quality if u need a backup. bangsue has more random electronics and home stuff, less clothing focused. for a one stop clothes shop, union wins, but if ur cool with a scavenger hunt and not sweating the outcome, bangsue is a proper local experience. either way, hit em before 2pm, after that it gets packed.

I'd lean Union Mall for clothes, but it depends on what you're after. Bangsue Junction has a proper flea market energy, lots of secondhand and vintage racks where you can find unique pieces, but you have to be patient and willing to sort through stuff. Union is more straightforward retail, new stock, and the price tags are clearly marked so you don't waste time negotiating.

If you're on a tight budget and want quantity, Union's upper floors are the move. I've grabbed decent plain tees for 80 to 120 baht there, and the selection is way more consistent than Bangsue. Bangsue can be cheaper on certain used items, but you're gambling on sizing and condition.

One thing nobody mentioned: Union gets seriously crowded on weekends, so if you hate elbow-to-elbow shopping, go on a weekday morning when it opens around 11am. Bangsue is more relaxed even on weekends, but it also feels less organized, so you'll be doing more digging. Also, Union has air conditioning throughout, which matters a lot in Bangkok's heat, Bangsue is mostly open-air corridors.

Union Mall is your better bet for clothes, hands down. It's got that chaotic, multi-floor vibe with hundreds of small stalls selling everything from cheap t-shirts to decent quality streetwear, and you can haggle. Bangsue Junction feels more like a sprawling market with a mix of used goods, electronics, and random stuff, so the clothing selection is thinner and hit or miss.

For affordability, Union takes it too, especially if you're willing to dig through the racks on the upper floors. Prices start around 100 baht for basic tops, and you can grab a full outfit for under 500 if you're not picky. Bangsue has some bargains but it's more about the hunt for vintage or secondhand finds, which takes time you said you don't have.

One practical tip: Union Mall is right next to BTS Mo Chit, so it's easier to squeeze in after Chatuchak if you're already in that area. Bangsue Junction needs the MRT Blue Line to Bang Sue station, which is a bit more of a trek. If you only have one afternoon, go Union.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
