Free fitness park close to MBK ?

Hello,

I am staying in Khaosan road and I go often to the public gym close to the grand palace.

I was wondering if there is a similar public gym or calisthenics park close to mbk ?

Thank you

You'll find a solid calisthenics setup at Santiphap Park, about a 15 minute walk from MBK. It's smaller than Lumpini but has parallel bars, pull-up bars, and some rings under the trees, plus it's open 5am to 10pm. I'd take it over Lumpini if you want fewer people and more shade, the workout area there gets packed after 5pm.

the closest free spot is actually at chulalongkorn university, just a 5 minute walk from mbk. they have outdoor pull-up bars and a few basic stations near the sports complex, it's open to anyone. quieter than lumpini and you get to see students running around

There isn't a free outdoor gym right at MBK itself, but you can walk over to Lumpini Park, which is about 10-15 minutes from MBK. They have a public calisthenics area near the lake with pull-up bars and dip stations, plus it's free and open from 5am to 9pm. The crowd there is mostly locals doing their morning or evening workouts, so it's a good spot if you want to avoid the tourist scene.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
