Camcorder repair shop?

Are there any camcorder repair shops around Bangkok or in its provinces that take in old, tape-based camcorders? I'm a local of Pathum Thani/Rangsit and there aren't any around here.

Thanks :)

Fortune Town at Rama 9 has a few camera repair shops tucked in the basement level, and some of the older stalls there still handle tape mechanisms. It's a bit of a trip from Rangsit, but I've seen them work on VHS-C and MiniDV units before, so it's worth calling ahead.

If you're willing to go further, there's a shop called Service Camera on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 that's been around for decades. They're more known for vintage gear, but the old guy there can usually source belts and gears for tape decks. Take the BTS to Phrom Phong and walk a bit, it's not hard to find.

Also, check out the weekend market at Chatuchak, section 8 or 9 has a couple of secondhand electronics stalls that sometimes know a repair guy. They won't advertise it, but asking around there has gotten me leads before.

You might have better luck searching for "ร้านซ่อมกล้อง" in the older shopping areas around Yaowarat or the Pantip Plaza branch at Ngamwongwan, which is closer to you. Pantip on Ngamwongwan used to have a few stalls on the upper floors that dealt with obsolete tech, though they've thinned out over the years, so call first.

Another angle is contacting the local university film departments, like at Thammasat's Rangsit campus. They often have technicians who maintain old tape cameras for student projects, and they might take on a side job or point you to someone who does.

If you're up for a day trip, the MBK center near Siam has a cluster of small repair booths on the 4th floor, but they mostly do digital stuff now. Still, I've seen a couple of older guys there with boxes of spare parts who'll take a look if you bring the camcorder in person.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
