Best gym near Sukhumvit bts line? preferably from Bearing to Thonglor

Hi! i do weight training and will be visiting bkk soon. any nice gym that is not too crowded and won't cost me a kidney to join? I'm only visiting so a day pass would be nice. Thank you! You're better off looking at gyms in the Ekkamai to Phra Khanong stretch than the ones right on Thonglor. There's a place called We Fitness on Sukhumvit 63, about a 5 minute walk from Ekkamai BTS, that does 300 baht day passes. It's got a proper powerlifting setup, deadlift platforms, and the crowd is mostly locals who know what they're doing, so no waiting around for racks.

Another option if you're down near Bearing is the True Fitness at Lasalle Avenue, it's a bit of a walk from BTS but grab a motorbike for 30 baht. Day pass is 500 baht, but it's a big space with decent free weights and rarely packed outside of 6-8pm. The machines are newer than most places you'll find along the line, and they've got actual air conditioning that works, which matters in Bangkok.

For something in between, check out the public sports complex at Lumphini Park, it's not on Sukhumvit but a quick hop on the MRT. They've got a basic weights room for like 50 baht entry, completely no frills but it's got the essentials and the outdoor track is great for warming up. Just bring your own towel and water, and go early before it gets busy with the lunch crowd.

if u want something quick and convenient, check out the virgin active at gateway ekamai, it's right above the bts. day pass is around 600 baht which is steep but the lifting area is solid and rarely crowded after 8pm. plus the sauna's actually hot, which is rare in bkk gyms.

or for a proper budget move, there's a basement gym at sukhumvit 50 called muscle factory. it's a bit grungy but has two deadlift platforms and a bunch of old school machines. 100 baht for a day and you'll likely be the only foreigner there. walk from on nut station about 10 mins, it's tucked behind a coffee shop. not the cleanest but the vibe is real.

honestly if you're up near Bearing, check out Fitness First at Mega Bangna or the one inside Central Bangna. it's a chain so not super cheap, but day passes run around 400-500 baht and it's way less packed than the ones in Thonglor. plus the equipment is new and they've got a decent free weights area.

if you're willing to hop off the BTS at On Nut, there's a small spot called Iron House on Sukhumvit 81. it's like a proper old school gym, no AC blasting, but the owner's a bodybuilder and the weights go heavy. day pass is like 150 baht and it's basically empty after 7pm. walk from On Nut station about 15 mins or grab a motorbike taxi for 20 baht.

either way, avoid the tourist trap gyms near Thonglor station itself, they charge 800+ for a day and it's all cardio bunnies.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
