Extension of non immigrant visa..documents needed and tips, deadline?any penalty if renew less than 2weeks before expiry

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

The 500 baht per day overstay fine is right, but don't forget they can also blacklist you if you let it slide for a long time, so just don't risk it. For the TM.7 form, you can grab it online and fill it out at home, saves you standing around at the desk with a pen that's out of ink.

One thing nobody mentioned, if you're on a non immigrant visa and doing the extension at Chaeng Watthana, the queue ticket system opens at like 7am but the actual counters start later, so bring a book

yeah the 1900 baht is for a single 30 day extension, but if ur on a non immigrant B and doing the yearly thing it's 1900 too, just make sure u got the work permit paperwork sorted or they'll send u back. for the TM.30 thing, if ur in a condo the juristic office can print it for u sometimes, saves u chasing the landlord.

tip: go to the IT Square Laksi branch instead of Chaeng Watthana main, it's inside the mall and way quieter, they take the same docs. also the photocopy thing, they want ur visa stamp AND the entry stamp on the same page ideally, so copy that spread. overstay penalty kicks in after midnight on expiry date, but if u renew even one day before, no fine, so the 2 week thing is just to avoid the rush. if u do it at like 60 days early on a 90 day entry, they might only give u the remainder plus 30, not a fresh 90, so yeah timing matters.

honestly the 2 week thing is more of a guideline than a hard rule, immigration is chill about it as long as you're before expiry. the real deadline is the day it expires, after that it's 500 baht per day overstay, which adds up fast.

documents are pretty standard: passport with the visa page, TM.30 proof of address from your landlord or hotel, a filled TM.7 form, and 1900 baht cash. if you're doing it for retirement or marriage you'll need the income or bank letter too, so check the specific category. i'd hit the Chaeng Watthana office early, like before 8am, or go to a smaller one like Muang Thong Thani branch, way less queue. bring a photocopy of your passport photo page and current visa stamp, they always ask for it. and no, renewing early doesn't trigger anything, but doing it more than 45 days before expiry sometimes gets you a shorter extension, so don't go too crazy.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
