India is out of the question given how little it resonates with my value system. Canada is a lot more up my alley but the recent retard liberal government has made life insufferable (economically) so I've been considering moving to Thailand. It's close to home so I can meet my parents more often, it has beaches, tropical climate, amazing food and proximity to so many amazing countries. It also seems to be a lot more affordable than Toronto. This is all based on my superficial assessment though, I'm sure there is more to it.

Can someone enlighten me? What is life like in Bangkok? Especially in terms of environmental pollution, healthcare, quality to food, civil sense, traffic, internal security and so on ?

Please understand that I'm not trying to be judgemental or draw comparisons, all countries have their own share of challenges so I'm just trying to understand if I can align well with life in Bangkok. Any insights would be great. Thank you! :)

i moved from toronto to bangkok 4 years ago, similar background. you're right about affordability - my rent in thong lo is half what i paid for a shoebox near yonge & bloor. the pollution is real though, especially dec-feb when the burning season hits. i run a hepa filter in my condo and track aqi daily.

healthcare is genuinely excellent if you have insurance. bumrungrad is world-class, like private toronto hospitals but half the price. for minor stuff, the government hospitals are fine too.

food quality is incredible if you stick to local markets. the imported stuff at gourmet market costs more than toronto. traffic is bad but the bts and mrt cover most of the city now. internal security is fine - i walk around at 2am regularly without concern.

the biggest adjustment for me was the heat. it's not just hot, it's oppressive for months. and the noise never stops. but the trade-off is worth it for me. come for 3 months first, don't commit blind

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
