Hello,

I need some pictures for my social media and I was wondering how much it costs on "average" for a shooting in bangkok ?

I am not looking for "the best of the best" and it will be a 1 hour shooting in the street.

Thanks

street shoots are fun but the real cost killer is the editing time, not the hour on the street. most freelancers quote the shoot cheap then charge 100-200 baht per edited photo, so a 1 hour session can balloon to 4-5k if u want 30 finals. ask for a flat package, like "3k for 20 edited pics, no extra fees", that's the sweet spot.

another thing, the time of day changes the price too. a sunrise or sunset slot is usually 500-1000 baht more expensive than a midday one, cause everyone wants that golden light. if ur flexible, a 10am shoot around the old town get's u softer shadows and way less competition for spots, plus the heat is manageable if u stick to the shady sois near the river.

u can also negotiate down if u book 2 hours instead of 1, a lot of shooters will drop the per-hour rate cause they'd rather lock in the longer job. and don't sleep on the thai photographers who post in local facebook groups like "ช่างภาพฟรีแลนซ์", their rates are often 30% lower than the IG crowd and they know the city way better. just use google translate for the booking chat, it's fine.

honestly depends what u want out of it. street shoot for an hour, a decent freelance photographer will run u around 1500 to 3000 baht. the lower end is usually someone just starting out on IG, the higher end gets u someone who's done brand work and knows the good spots around yaowarat or the old town.

if u wanna save, skip the agencies and look up hashtags like #bangkokphotographer on IG, then check their tagged posts to see if they actually shoot the vibe u want. also, a lot of them will throw in edited pics within that price, but ask upfront how many finals u get, cause some only give like 10 and charge extra for the rest.

one thing nobody mentions, street shooting in bangkok means dealing with heat and traffic. pick a time like 6am near the golden mount or 4pm along the river, u'll get way better light and less sweat in ur shots. that matters more than the price tag tbh.

fwiw i'd skip the whole "hire a photographer" route and look into the photography meetup groups on facebook, like the bangkok street photography club. they do casual group walks around old town or the riverside every few weekends, and there's always someone willing to shoot u for free or for a drink just to practice. u might not get a polished portfolio feed, but u get real street candids and no pressure.

if u do go paid, ask if they're cool with u tagging along on their next scheduled shoot instead of booking a solo slot. some freelancers will squeeze u into a gap for like 800 baht cause they're already out there anyway. saw a girl do this near the pak khlong flower market, she paid 600 for 20 mins and got some killer shots by the boats at dawn.

one thing nobody said, check if they shoot raw and give u the files. a lot of the cheap guys only hand over jpegs, but raw gives u freedom to edit urself later. ask for that upfront, it's a game changer if u know ur way around lightroom on ur phone.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
