For 20 days I'd actually split your time between both. Start in Sukhumvit to get your bearings and use the BTS to explore, then move to the Khaosan area for your last few days when you're more comfortable with the city. Stay near the Saphan Khwai or Ari BTS stations on Sukhumvit line for cheaper rooms that still have good street food and are less touristy than Nana or Asok.

20 days is a long time, you'll get sick of khaosan after like 3 nights tbh. sukhumvit gives you way more options for food and things to do, plus the BTS makes it easy to explore other parts of the city. if you're on a budget tho, look around the On Nut area on sukhumvit line, cheaper rooms and still close to everything

honestly depends on what u want. khaosan is chaos and backpacker central, sukhumvit is more city life and convenience. for 20 days i'd pick sukhumvit, way easier to get around

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
