One thing the others didn't mention: if your 600k sits in a savings account, keep the passbook updated at an ATM or counter the same morning of your appointment. Officers at some desks, especially older ones, want to see the physical passbook entry match the statement date, and an outdated passbook can trigger a request for a fresh bank letter with a new fee.

Also, the two month seasoning check applies to the first S visa application, but for renewals some offices accept 3 months of history if you've held the visa continuously. I'd keep the money untouched for a full 90 days before your extension date regardless, because the transaction detail printout they pull can show any same-day in and out movement, and that's what gets people rejected.

honestly the 600k rule is only part of it, they also watch the transaction history for "seasoning". if the money moves out and back in right before you apply, some officers will flag it. i keep mine in a fixed deposit at Kasikorn and just renew the term every 3 months, that way the statement shows a clean rollover, not a fresh deposit.

one thing people forget is the bank letter has a fee, usually 100 to 200 baht per copy, and it's only valid for 7 days. so don't get it too early, or you'll be back at the branch paying again. also make sure your name in the bank matches your passport exactly, one typo and they'll send you home.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
