Hello,

Just been made aware that the kings coronation is over the next few days. I was just wondering are there any parks or places where there'll be celebrations such as fireworks or street parties and the likes?

I've been told the majority is behind closed doors, but is there anything for the average peeps?

Thank you for any insight! Appreciate it :)

There won't be street parties or public fireworks like you'd see for New Year. The main public event is the royal barge procession on the Chao Phraya River on Sunday, which is free to watch from the riverbanks. Get there early along the stretch near Thonburi or by Wat Arun for a good spot. Otherwise, most ceremonies are inside the Grand Palace and not open to the public, but you'll see big screens set up at Sanam Luang and some government buildings showing the broadcasts. The atmosphere around those areas will be lively with people in yellow shirts, but it's more about respectful observation than a party.

The big public moment is the royal barge procession on Sunday afternoon. The best free spots to watch are along the river near Wat Arun or under the Rama VIII bridge, but people start staking out space by mid-morning. If you want to skip the crowds, grab a river taxi or a dinner cruise that will park along the route, though those book up fast. On Saturday, there's a state banquet and some smaller ceremonies inside the palace, but the real public energy is just people gathering at places like Sanam Luang or along Ratchadamnoen Avenue to watch the broadcasts on big screens and take photos of the illuminated buildings at night.

yeah the other person summed it up well but one thing to add - a lot of the shopping malls like siam paragon and centralworld will have the ceremonies playing on their big screens too. it's not a party vibe but you'll see thai families hanging out, grabbing food from the food courts, watching it together. also check if wat phra kaew or the grand palace area has any extended opening hours for the public to view the decorations after the main events finish on sunday. just expect heavy crowds and security checkpoints near ratanakosin island all weekend

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
