Any recommendations for the Suksawat area kind of near Phra Pradaeng? Not a lot online at all

suksawat is kind of a weird in-between area tbh. if you're near the pier you can take the ferry across to phra pradaeng proper which has some good street food around the market. but on the suksawat side itself, the best bet is probably the big lotus or makro for practical stuff. there's a decent khao man gai spot near the bangkok land housing complex if you know where to look. honestly most people just go to central ratburana for anything more interesting

if you're into old-school thai desserts theres a lady on suksawat 36 who makes khao tom mat wrapped in banana leaves every morning around 7. shes been there for like 20 years and its only 10 baht each. also the soi 26 entrance has a guy selling grilled pork skewers that are way better than the ones at the 7-11, he uses actual charcoal

There's a tiny Muslim boat noodle place near the Bang Pakok intersection that does a really good beef version, most people just go to the one on the main road but this one's been there for years. Also if you're around on a weekend morning the market near Wat Suwandararam has some proper old-school khao tom kluay that's hard to find anywhere else.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
