Where in BKK for a week or month?

I am a retired USA ex-pat now living in Mexico when I'm not traveling. I'm coming to SE Asia to look for a new retirement home base. I'm landing in BKK and can stay for up to 60 days I believe. I'm not seriously considering Thailand, as other countries seem to be easier with more amenities to my life style. I plan to visit Cambodia, the Philippines, and Malaysia (maybe Viet Nam) on this trip. I might even go to South Korea or Japan for some baseball. Anyway, my question for you is more about my upcoming (end of May) trip to BKK. I'm looking for suggestions regarding where to stay and for how long. I prefer somewhat modern amenities and if there is a neighborhood that has craft bars and is less hectic than the city center. I have been to BKK for a few days maybe 10-15 years ago. While I'm from New York City, Bangkok seemed a little more frantic. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Is anything going on from like May 25 - June 25?

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
