Anyone here need a climbing buddy or want to try some bouldering?

ngl the outdoor day trips are where it's at for actual climbing, not just gym stuff. there's a group called bangkok climbers that runs minivan trips to crazy horse buttress in khao yai like twice a month, leaves at 5am and back by 8pm, costs like 800 baht including transport and guide. the limestone there is grippy as hell and way less polished than krabi

for gyms nobody mentioned stonehead climbing in ram intra yet, it's a bit out the way but they have this massive overhang section that's great for building endurance. day pass is 250 baht which is the cheapest i've found, and they sell climbing shoes for like 1500 baht if u need a starter pair

If you're around the Sukhumvit area, Base Camp Climbing in On Nut is worth a look. It's a smaller setup but they have a solid bouldering cave that gets rotated every couple weeks. The crowd there skews a bit more social, people often grab food together after sessions at the night market right outside.

dude there's also urban climbing lab near huai khwang, it's newer and less known. they've got a decent lead wall plus bouldering, and the setting feels more technical than the other places. entry is like 300 baht for a day pass i think

if you're looking for outdoor stuff, krabi and khao yai are both doable for weekend trips from bkk. krabi's like an hour flight with airasia for around 1500 baht round trip, totally worth it for the limestone

the local climbing fb group "bangkok climbing" is pretty active for finding partners too, people post there all the time looking for belay buddies

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
