Local fashion designers?

Are there any areas in Bangkok that have fresh, young fashion designer shops, for both men and women? It interested in the big brands, we can find those anywhere. Thanks. try talad noi off yaowarat, the sois behind the old market near mrt wat mangkon. there's a handful of small thai menswear labels doing relaxed tailoring & indigo work, prices way below the mall stuff, most shops open around 11am and close by 7. ngl quality varies so look at the stitching before u commit. also check the area around ari bts, it's more spread out but a few young designers have studios/shopfronts on phahon yothin 7

Honestly the best cluster is around Soi Charoen Krung 36-44 in Bang Rak, near the old shophouses by River City. Places like Vickteerut and a bunch of tiny multi-label spots tucked upstairs stock young Thai labels, womenswear mostly but a few do unisex. Chatuchak weekend market has a whole section for indie designers too, section 2 and 3 if i remember right, way cheaper but you gotta dig.

The Siam Square sois behind the main drag, especially Soi 3 and Soi 4, have a rotating crop of student and recent-grad labels, and it skews younger and cheaper than the Charoen Krung scene. Rent there is low so designers turn over fast, which means it's worth a wander every couple months rather than a one-time trip. For menswear specifically I'd also look at the small shops around Ekkamai Soi 10, a few do unisex streetwear and reworked vintage at prices well under Siam mall rates.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
