What happened to the food vendors in front of the Lotus at On Nut BTS?

The sidewalk in front of the Lotus is usually lined with a lot of food vendor stalls but they have completely vanished!

Does anyone know what happened to them or if they moved elsewhere?

Not that there's a lack of food options in the area but it was a vibrant part of that side of the BTS exit and was surprised to see it completely gone and bare.

they got cleared out around songkran, bkk has been cracking down on sidewalk stalls along sukhumvit for a while now. the on nut lot was technically on lotus property so once the lease stuff changed they were gone pretty quick. most of the regulars moved into the little alley behind the market on soi 77/1, the woman who did the moo ping is there now near the 7-11 if u were looking for her specifically

most of those vendors were actually renting the space from the old Tesco lease, and when Lotus took over they didn't renew. some ended up at the On Nut market soi 79 side, not just 77. try walking past the school around 5pm, small cluster there now near the motorcycle taxi stand

The On Nut side changed a lot once Lotus's took over from the old Tesco format. That frontage got rezoned as part of the store's setback requirement, so vendors were never going to stay long term. A few of the regulars actually shifted across to the Phra Khanong side of the canal, under the BTS walkway near the market, and there's a decent cluster there most evenings around 5 to 7. If you're after the specific Isaan stalls that used to be by the Lotus entrance, check the soi 77 side near the temple, they set up there now.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
